B.Tech (Civil Engineering)

Programme Educational Objectives  (PEOs)


PEO1:  To prepare graduates for successful careers in various domains of Civil Engineering Profession by providing a strong foundation in mathematical analysis, scientific reasoning, and sound engineering fundamentals necessary to solve practical problems.

PEO2:  To expose graduates to emerging issues, and approaches to problem-solving, in order to meet the changing needs of the Society, and the Indian industry in areas related to civil engineering design, planning, and construction.

PEO3:  To inculcate team-spirit, and leadership capabilities among graduates through group-based activities and projects with emphasis on planning of experiments, use of software, development of skills for interpreting results of analyses, and writing of effective technical reports.

PEO4:  To familiarize graduates with professional issues in civil engineering including: professional ethics, issues related to the global economy; emerging technologies; and fostering of job-related skills with emphasis on improved communication skills.

PEO5:   To imbibe a spirit of inquiry among graduates in order to promote keen interest in pursuing higher studies and engineering-research.

Programme Outcomes (POs)


PO1Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

PO2Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

PO3 Design/development of solutions:Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

PO4 Conduct investigations of complex problems:Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

PO5 Modern tool usage:Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

PO6 The engineer and society:Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

PO7 Environment and sustainability:Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

PO8 Ethics:Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

PO9 Individual and team work:Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.

PO10 Communication:Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

PO11 Project management and finance:Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

PO12 Life-long learning:Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

Programme Specific Outcomes  (PSOs)


PSO1:  An ability to find solutions to civil engineering problems using mathematical and scientific knowledge.

PSO2:  An ability to plan, and design civil engineering systems, components or processes as per relevant codes of practice, user requirements and constraints.

PSO3:  An ability to develop attitudes, techniques and skills to succeed in a competitive professional environment including higher studies in a global context.

PSO4: An ability to develop the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurial leadership focused towards the design and implementation of sustainable civil engineering systems.


M.Tech in Environmental Engineering

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)

PEO1: To prepare our graduates to apply environmental engineering knowledge acquired to excel and become leaders in engineering, research, planning & consulting, industry, public health, regulatory agencies, policy making and education.

PEO2: To prepare our graduates to think critically, behave ethically and to envisage the technical and social consequences of their actions.

PEO3: To prepare our graduates to inculcate team-spirit and interpersonal and mass communication skills so as to coordinate and lead multidisciplinary engineering teams in addressing environmental issues.

Programme Outcomes (POs)

PO1: An ability to independently carry out research /investigation and development work to solve practical problems.

PO2: An ability to write and present a substantial technical report/document.

PO3: Students should be able to demonstrate a degree of mastery over the area as per the specialization of the program. The mastery should be at a level higher than the requirements in the appropriate bachelor program.

PO4: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, natural & social sciences and engineering to understand and solve environmental problems.

PO5: Recommend economically sustainable solutions and alternatives for an environmental engineering problem by including considerations of risk, uncertainty, sustainability, life-cycle principles, and environmental impacts.

PO6: Use modern/advanced techniques, tools, and skills for environmental engineering practice and research.


M.Tech in Geotechnical Engineering

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)

PEO1: To prepare the graduates of the program for their careers as good geotechnical engineers with professional, ethical and societal responsibilities in research, academics, construction, consultancy, design development etc. which would thereafter enable them to develop team-spirit, entrepreneurial abilities, managerial and leadership qualities.

PEO2: To impart practical perspectives of geotechnical engineering in order to propose techno-economically and practical solutions to complex geotechnical problems for collaborative and multidisciplinary projects.

PEO3: To groom the graduates of the program to plan, innovate, design and execute a part or whole geotechnical system with an intelligent understanding and scientific information available in the relevant books, articles and codes of practice for construction and maintenance of civil engineering structures.

PO4: An ability to understand the behaviour of geomaterials under different loading and site conditions; and think critically to evaluate problems scientifically for planning and designing of geotechnical engineering systems, components or processes as per relevant codes of practice, user requirements and constraints by using various software, modern computational tools, lab tests, field tests, fundamental theories and analytical methods.


M.Tech in Structural Engineering

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)

PEO1: To prepare graduates to deliver competent services in analysis and design of complex structural systems with a thorough knowledge of the principles of engineering and theories of science.

PEO2: To train graduates to continue their professional development, nurture research attitude and lifelong learning with scientific temperament.

PEO3: To transform graduates into leaders of inter disciplinary teams that solve technological problems.

PEO4: To inculcate graduates with qualities of high professional integrity, commitment to societal needs and sustainable development.

M.Tech in Transportation Engineering

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)

The Department of Civil Engineering, through its M. Tech Program in Transportation Engineering, provides opportunities to attain knowledge, and attitude for:

PEO1: Acquiring necessary skill-sets for choosing a career as a professional, teacher, or researcher in the field of transportation engineering.

PEO2: Professional development that requires critical-thinking, problem-solving capabilities, engineering judgment, understanding of group dynamics, communication skills, and ability to handle modern tools and technology, that can assist in life-long learning.

PEO3: Self-learning, and research for advancing the knowledge-base in Transportation Engineering.

PEO4: Professional practice consistent with the principles of sustainable development.
